Callie creates a flower border for her classroom bulletin board. Each paper flower has 6 petals. Callie needs 20 of her lovely flowers to complete the border. She has 55 petals. Does she have enough flower petals to finish the border? If not how many more will she need?
Mrs. D. Clark's 2nd grade worked out this problem with Wilbur in our classroom. Callie doesn't have enough petals. We used our doubles and a number line to figure out that she needs 65 more petals. She needs 11 more flowers.
